Remembering the Remarkable Pioneer and Legacy of Philippe II de Gaspé de Beaubien

The James A. Burton & Family Foundation (JABFF) joins the Canadian family enterprise community in mourning the passing of Philippe II de Gaspé Beaubien, a revered pioneer whose visionary leadership and lasting contributions shaped generations of business families. He passed away peacefully on 9 April 2025 at the age of 97.

Philippe was an iconic figure in Canada, a national treasure whose leadership and philanthropic vision deeply influenced the evolution of Canadian family business culture. As a co-founder of the Business Families Foundation, he recognized the value of uniting business families in the community, enabling them to learn from one another’s experiences through success, challenge, and transition.

His courage, generosity, and belief in the strength of families working together created a lasting movement that has inspired and educated countless family enterprises nationwide. His vision continues to resonate across Canada and beyond, shaping how families engage in business with purpose and shared values.

He believed in the strength of families to learn from one another, to build lasting bonds through shared experience,” said Jim Burton, Chair of the JABFF. “His influence helped create a national movement rooted in unity, generosity, and purpose. We honour his memory with gratitude and carry his vision forward through our continued work. Our deepest sympathies go to Nan-B, their children, grandchildren, and the entire de Gaspé Beaubien family. His legacy lives on in every family enterprise he inspired.”
